New Year, New Intentions?

By Find Wellness TeamJanuary 3, 2025

Imagine it is one year from now. Which of your new intentions, if you set any, would you like to have stuck to?

If you haven't set any intentions that is fine too, but I encourage you to take a few moments and consider how you would like to feel one year from now?

More rested? Less anxious? Stronger? Fitter? More peaceful? Do you have a bucket list health goal you would like to work towards or do you need to carve more time out for yourself and activities that light you up?

I could go on but you know what is bringing you to a website about wellness and the myriad of experienced practitioners we have in Ireland that can help you.

Everything starts with intention, that is why it is so important to connect to how you would like to feel this time next year. Your future self is being created today and every day by the choices you make every day. Tap in to that feeling you want to achieve, visualise it and take a step towards making it a reality.

For example, if you love the idea of completing a mini marathon, first begin with a goal of completing a 5k run, consider joining a running group or downloading an app to help you. If your shoulder has been niggling at you for ages and you keep meaning to get it looked at, book the physio appointment, acupuncture session or massage that might help. Every journey begins with a first step and your health is no different.

More Than Movement

Some people, myself included, like to choose a word to focus on every year. Examples could be Connection, Alignment, Abundance, Peace, Vitality. The word could be a feeling you want to bring to your life or that you are working on. You can use that word in various aspects of your life throughout the year to bring you back to focus and so that you keep sight of what it is you want to achieve/feel. Try incorporating your chosen word into passwords you use often or write it on a post-it and stick it somewhere you will see it regularly.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) defines health as "a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing, and not merely the absence of disease".

Finding Your Focus

If you are not sure what you want to work on but are feeling out of alignment, you could try the following simple exercise which will help you take a "bird's eye" view on several areas of your life:

Take a page and draw a large circle on it. Split the wheel into 8 segments and title each segment as follows:

  • Money & Finance
  • Physical Health
  • Mental Health
  • Family & Friends
  • Personal Growth & Learning
  • Career & Work
  • Fun
  • Spirituality

Think about your life right now. Give each segment a score between 0 and 10 for how you feel about each area at the moment. Where are you scoring lowest? Which segments of your life are you scoring highest at? How does the balance feel to you? This could help guide you on your wellness journey this year.

Once you have identified your health goals, hopefully we can be a help in guiding you to the practitioner you need. The important thing is to enjoy the process as you work on improving your life. As the saying goes "life is what happens when we are busy making other plans"!

Take care,
